With installed variable renewable generation rising across the globe, there is a need to prepare grids to face the challenges of variable generation. At eRoots Analytics, we use tools such as static representations to aid companies in making accurate and informed design decisions while working towards this goal.
The curtailment of renewable energies, which arises due to the limitations of the electrical network, is becoming a hot topic. At eRoots Analytics and CITCEA-UPC we are working on analyzing modern grids with a high renewable penetration, with the associated challenges and subsequent solutions.
Power converters can provide support to the grid during short-circuit faults. This blog reviews the traditional fault current calculations to take into account converters support when solving unbalanced short-circuit faults. In addition, some current injection control strategies are studied and compared.
Power converters exhibit different behaviors when short-circuit faults arise. This blog explores the grid-support provided by converters during unbalanced faults and suggests strategies to improve it. These alternatives have been shown to yield near-optimal solutions, which supposes a substantial improvement compared to the response of traditional grid codes.
