eRoots Joins CRESYM
January 20, 2026

eRoots has joined CRESYM, a non-profit association focused on collaborative, open-source energy system modelling for a rapidly evolving European grid.
This is a natural step for us. As power systems become more complex and more converter-dominated, the need for transparent and reusable modelling approaches becomes harder to ignore. Progress depends not only on better algorithms or more detailed studies, but also on shared model libraries, clear documentation, and workflows that can be understood, reproduced, and improved by a wider technical community.
That view is closely aligned with the work CRESYM is doing.
CRESYM brings together people and organisations working on collaborative approaches to energy system modelling, with a strong emphasis on openness and technical reuse. In a field where many workflows still depend on isolated toolchains and fragmented model development, that kind of effort has real value. It helps reduce duplication, makes technical work easier to build on, and supports a more consistent path from research to practical application.
We have already contributed to COLib, CRESYM’s collaborative library of dynamic models and test systems, and that experience has reinforced the importance of maintaining open and well-documented building blocks. Reusable models are not only convenient. They make it easier to compare methods, validate results, and accelerate work across a broad range of power system studies.
Joining CRESYM formalises that alignment. It gives us a more structured way to contribute to early-stage research and to support its progression toward tools and methods that can be used in practice by TSOs, DSOs, and system planners.
For us, this is not only about participating in an association. It is about supporting the kind of technical ecosystem that modern power systems increasingly require. As the grid evolves, the underlying modelling infrastructure also needs to evolve with it. Open collaboration, transparent model development, and reproducible studies are an important part of that shift.
We are glad to be part of CRESYM and look forward to contributing further.
